If Webster's had a pug...

I trained them as well as I could and happily their first few words included some of our combined favorites;
1. toes (noun plural) the very first word out of the darker furred one... and boy I love licking me some good baby toes
2. dog (noun.) because that's what I am and Finnegan is way too big for those little human mouths to say right now
3. go (noun.) the long curved yellow fruit you peel . Derived from the song "GoBanana, GoGoBanana, Peel Banana, Peel Peel Banana, Lean to the Left, Lean to the Right, Peel that Banana, and yumm, take a bite!"
4.go go (verb.) the phrase spoken when I am supposed to go outside and actually off the deck and do my business. Although I much prefer the 1960's term to move about in a frenzied dance manner -I do that much better, and it's similar to the term
5. Zippies (adv.) ultimate funtime. the step just beyond normal play run where my backend lowers the tail straightens out and a non pug owner might think a mean person placed a rocket in my butt.
Oh how I could go on about the English language, but now back to some sweet tasty baby toes...

pesky little humans....

Well I shouldn't say that, exactly. They are not as much pesky as they are time-consuming of my girl human. Most days now I am lucky to get in more than just some post-ice-cream-snuggle-time with her before bed. And playtime....?... you know, "that-good-45-minute-tease-me-with-my-Yankee-doodle" or the ever popular "let-me-do-lightning-fast-circles-around-your-body-while-you-masterfully-keep-my-armadillo-spiraling-just-millimeters-from-my-mouth" type game, yup... that's a thing of the past.
Don't get me wrong, the little humans are coming into their own nicely, and when they are not practicing their latest activity of screaming up into the pitch only us dogs can hear, they sometimes get it right and try to play tug-of-war with me. I am really so good at remembering to be nice and gentle and happy to play but every once in a while they just don't seem to understand that smacking me is not part of the game. And when they don't get their way ...that one with the short legs and darker fur really knows how to bite. What's with that ???? If I ever did that I would have to sleep on the top of the comforter or something worse like... on the floor! But maybe it's because they haven't learned to speak all their words yet. And did I tell you about the disproportionate amount of toys we have in the house now?.... I should save that for another day....It's HUGE!
Oh and just 10 days until Pug Picnic!!!!! Can't wait to see all my pals and meet some new friends too! check it out www.pugresucenc.org/picnic.html
And yes....I'm taking the two little humans with me :-)

in the dog house

I probably am in the doghouse with my wonderful followers and friends. Once again I have failed to keep you up to date in a timely manner with my doggy doings. Well let's see .... October, hmmmm that was about 42 dog months ago....yikes. Really, really sorry.
For those of you who wanted to know my reunion was a blast!!!! I had the bestest-puggiest time seeing some of my friends and especially my foster mom and dad. They sure looked good and it was fun showing off my "two little monsters". Yes we were 3 Musketeers (snack size of course) I met all sorts of new pug friends, human friends, farm animal friends and even Elvis! After the reunion I got to get some new postcards for my refrigerator since my humans took a really long 5 day weekend! We drove all sorts of places, I met some more new relatives and went to the country and played with some big dogs and saw all sorts of things . Then my little humans and I got to play on the beach and in the ocean before the weather got too cold. Now we are really looking forward to doing that again real soon before they close the beaches to dogs for the summer season and after spending lots of time in New England this winter. Brrrrr..... I am not sure about all that snow we had, and that our grandmothers are still getting?!?!? The 3 of us are fascinated by it looking out the window, but it makes it really hard to pee since you can't smell the ground for that perfect spot , and that first storm dumped almost 3 times my height,what's a pug to do? So inside we stayed and played and oh boy with all the toys it really got confusing who's toy was who's.
Anyhow, Punxsutawney Phil told the monsters on their birthday this year that we would be outside playing in no time... and he was right.... we all played in the back yard the week before last and had a good time -almost 80 degrees in February, ok that was a bit extreme too.
So this week I am finally recovered from my first big teeth cleaning,as Feb. was national pet dental month. Making soft food from my very special stuff was an added "challenge" to my humans olfactory systems. Having only a few feet of intestines left from my early puppy days has numbed their noses somewhat but this was just insult to injury. As we say in the house now "Rinky Dinky Some one's Stinky" or "Rooty Tooty Some one's Pooty" and just wait for which ever of the now one year olds raises their hand and giggles. But can you believe they now point to me too?!?! Oh the indignation......
